ABSTRACT

With the development of small-molecule immunotherapy drugs, its combination with the programmed cell death ligand 1/programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-L1/PD-1) antibodies would provide a new opportunity for cancer treatment. Therefore, targeting PD-L1/PD-1 axis by small-molecule drug is an attractive approach to enhance antitumor immunity and considered as the next generation of tumor immunotherapy. In the present study, we investigated the anti-tumor role of salvianolic acid B (SAB) by regulating the PD-L1 level in tumors. Changes of total PD-L1 and membrane PD-L1 levels were determined by Western blot, flow cytometry and PD-1/PD-L1 interaction assays. The expression of mRNA level of PD-L1 was detected by real-time PCR. The cytotoxicity of activated peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) cells toward co-cultured tumor cells was measured by cell impedance assay and crystal violet experiment. Surface plasma resonance technique was used to analyze the direct interaction between SAB and ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolase 2 (USP2). The antitumor effect of SAB in vivo was examined by C57BL/6 mice bearing MC38 xenograft tumor (all animal experiments were conducted in accordance with the Animal Ethics Committee of the Institute of Medicinal Biotechnology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences). Western blot and flow cytometry assay showed that SAB can significantly downregulate the abundance of PD-L1 in RKO and PC3 cells in dose- and time-dependent manner. PD-1/PD-L1 binding assay revealed that SAB reduces the binding of tumor cells to recombinant PD-1 protein. Mechanism studies revealed that SAB can bind directly to USP2 protein and inhibit its activity, thus promote the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway degradation of PD-L1 proteins. In addition, Cell impedance and crystal violet staining indicated that SAB enhances the killing activity of co-cultured PBMC cells toward tumor cells. MC38 tumor transplanted mouse experiments revealed that SAB treatment displayed significant suppression in the growth of MC38 tumor xenografts in C57BL/6 mice with an inhibition rate of 63.2% at 20 mg·kg-1. Our results demonstrate that SAB exerts its anti-tumor activity by direct binding and inhibiting the activity of USP2 and reducing the PD-L1 level. Our study provides an important material basis and scientific basis for the potential application of SAB in tumor immunotherapy drug targeting USP2-PD-L1 axis.

ABSTRACT

More and more studies have shown that NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome has become the regulatory factor of inflammatory response and protective immunity, and the assembly and activation of NLRP3 inflammasomes are closely related to the anti-tumor immunity effect. Depending on the cell type and stimuli, activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome can induce immune cells to become polarized, hyperactive, or pyroptotic, releasing interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-18, which leads to cascade immune or inflammatory responses, and its role in tumor immunity has received extensive attention. Here, we review the mechanisms of the NLRP3 inflammasome enhancing CD8+ T cells-mediated anti-tumor immunity by inducing the pyroptosis of tumor cell, the pyroptosis or hyperactive state of dendritic cells (DCs), and the pyroptosis or polarization of the macrophages. Different anti-tumor immune roles of NLRP3 inflammasome activation in tumor cells and immune cells provide new directions for future research and may influence the development of next-generation immunotherapy.

ABSTRACT

Hypertension is one of the strongest risk factors for cardiovascular diseases, cerebral stroke, and kidney failure. Lifestyle and nutrition are important factors that modulate blood pressure. Hypertension can be controlled by increasing physical activity, decreasing alcohol and sodium intake, and stopping tobacco smoking. Chronic kidney disease patients often have increased blood pressure, which indicates that kidney is one of the major organs responsible for blood pressure homeostasis. The decrease of renal sodium reabsorption and increase of diuresis induced by high potassium intake is critical for the blood pressure reduction. The beneficial effect of a high potassium diet on hypertension could be explained by decreased salt reabsorption by sodium-chloride cotransporter (NCC) in the distal convoluted tubule (DCT). In DCT cells, NCC activity is controlled by with-no-lysine kinases (WNKs) and its down-stream target kinases, Ste20-related proline-alanine-rich kinase (SPAK) and oxidative stress-responsive 1 (OSR1). The kinase activity of WNKs is inhibited by intracellular chloride ([Cl-]i) and WNK4 is known to be the major WNK positively regulating NCC. Based on our previous studies, high potassium intake reduces the basolateral potassium conductance, decreases the negativity of DCT basolateral membrane (depolarization), and increases [Cl-]i. High [Cl-]i inhibits WNK4-SPAK/OSR1 pathway, and thereby decreases NCC phosphorylation. In this review, we discuss the role of DCT in the blood pressure regulation by dietary potassium intake, which is the mechanism that has been best dissected so far.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the CT features and surgical treatment of mixed epithelial and stromal tumor of the kidney (MESTK).Methods:From April 2015 to August 2018, 13 patients with MESTK confirmed by pathology at the First Affiliated Hospital, College of Medicine, Zhejiang University, were enrolled in this study and their clinical data were analyzed retrospectively. These patients included 3 males and 10 females, with age ranging from 22 to 80 years old and the median age of 37 years old. Two patients complained of lumbar discomfort with urinary urgency and another 2 patients presented with hematuria. Nine patients were asymptomatic and their renal lesions were detected by abdominal ultrasonography for physical examination or other reasons. There were 2 cases had a history of polycystic kidney disease, 1 patient took contraceptive for 2 years, and 3 cases took antihypertensive agents for 5-10 years. The other patients denied any administration of hormone or other medicine for long time. The urine routine test was normal for these patients except for 2 patients did not take this test before operation. The creatinine value ranged from 45 to 486 μmol/L, with the median value of 67 μmol/L. The scope of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) was 6.98 to 132.28 ml/min, with the median value of 109.28 ml/min. The preoperative computer tomography (CT) showed single neoplasm in 11 patients and no obvious neoplasm was found in 2 patients who had polycystic kidney disease. Moreover, these lesions presented cystic neoplasm for 8 cases, cystic-solid neoplasm for 2 cases and solid neoplasm for 3 cases. Long diameter was measured about 2.5 to 7.5 cm, with the median of 5 cm, and calcification was found in 4 cases. These tumors manifested mild to moderate enhancement and delayed-enhancement for tumor parenchyma and intracapsular septum. The CT attenuation value was from 20 to 55 Hounsfield unit (HU). Base on the R. E.N.A.L. score system, these renal lesions got 4 to 10 points, with the median value of 7 points. Before operation, just 1 case was diagnosed as angiomyolipoma and 2 cases were diagnosed as polycystic kidney disease. No definitive diagnosis was made for the other 10 cases by CT imaging. In addition, the tumor staging based on preoperative imaging was made at T1a for 8 cases and T1b for 3 cases. Among these cases, 2 patients with polycystic kidney disease underwent open radical nephrectomy due to recurrent hematuria and uremia. One patient underwent laparoscopic radical nephrectomy due to perirenal fat adhesion. Partial nephrectomy was performed in remaining 10 patients by open surgery for 6 patients, robotic surgery for 3 patients and laparoscopic surgery for 1 patient. These renal tumors and 0.5-1.0 cm surrounding normal renal parenchyma were removed during operation. Results:In this study, 8 patients had blood loss of 30 to 100 ml during open operation, and 5 patients had blood loss of 20 to 100 ml during laparoscopic or robotic surgery. The warm ischemic time during partial nephrectomy was around 17 to 40 min, with the median value of 20 min. All of 13 cases were diagnosed as MESTK by postoperative pathology and the surgical margin was negative. There were no serious complications or special treatment after operation. The follow-up time ranged from 12 to 41 months, with the median time of 21 months. Obvious signs of tumor recurrence or metastasis were not detected in 13 cases during follow-up.Conclusions:CT images of MESTK mostly presented cystic or cystic-solid lesions, and solid lesions were relatively rare. This disease always showed mild to moderate enhancement and delayed enhancement of septal or tumor parenchyma. If there is coarse calcification in the lesions, it is more likely to be diagnosed as MESTK. Partial nephrectomy is preferred and radical nephrectomy should be considered when perirenal fat adhesion is suggested by the preoperative CT images.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE Cranial radiotherapy is clinically used in the treatment of brain tumors;however, the conse?quent cognitive and emotional dysfunctions seriously impair the life quality of patients. LW-AFC, an active fraction combi?nation extracted from classical traditional Chinese medicine prescription Liuwei Dihuang decoction, can improve cogni?tive and emotional dysfunctions in many animal models;however, the protective effect of LW-AFC on cranial irradiation-induced cognitive and emotional dysfunctions has not been reported. Recent studies indicate that impairment of adult hippocampal neurogenesis (AHN) and alterations of the neurogenic microenvironment in the hippocampus constitute crit?ical factors in cognitive and emotional dysfunctions following cranial irradiation. Here, our research further investigated the potential protective effects and mechanisms of LW-AFC on cranial irradiation-induced cognitive and emotional dys?functions in mice. METHODS LW-AFC (1.6 g·kg-1) was intragastrically administered to mice for 14 d before cranial irra?diation (7 Gyγ-ray). AHN was examined by quantifying the number of proliferative neural stem cells and immature neu?rons in the dorsal and ventral hippocampus. The contextual fear conditioning test, open field test, and tail suspension test were used to assess cognitive and emotional functions in mice. To detect the change of the neurogenic microenvi?ronment, colorimetry and multiplex bead analysis were performed to measure the level of oxidative stress, neurotrophic and growth factors, and inflammation in the hippocampus. RESULTS LW-AFC exerted beneficial effects on the contex?tual fear memory, anxiety behavior, and depression behavior in irradiated mice. Moreover, LW-AFC increased the num?ber of proliferative neural stem cells and immature neurons in the dorsal hippocampus, displaying a regional specificity of neurogenic response. For the neurogenic microenvironment, LW-AFC significantly increased the contents of superox?ide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione, and catalase and decreased the content of malondialdehyde in the hippocampus of irradiated mice, accompanied by the increase in brain-derived neurotrophic factor, insulin-like growth factor-1, and interleukin-4 content. Together, LW-AFC improved cognitive and emotional dysfunctions, promoted AHN preferentially in the dorsal hippocampus, and ameliorated disturbance in the neurogenic microenvironment in irradiated mice. CONCLUSION LW-AFC ameliorates cranial irradiation-induced cognitive and emotional dysfunctions, and the underlying mechanisms are mediated by promoting AHN in the dorsal hippocampus and improving the neurogenic micro?environment. LW-AFC might be a promising therapeutic agent to treat cognitive and emotional dysfunctions in patients receiving cranial radiotherapy.

Methods:The retrospective and descriptive study was conducted. The clinicopathological data of 16 patients with perihilar cholangiocarcinoma who underwent 99Tc m-GSA scintigraphy after PVE in Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital Affiliated to Tsinghua University from October 2019 to January 2021 were collected. There were 8 males and 8 females, aged from 46 to 78 years, with a median age of 64 years. Observation indicators: (1) liver volume after PVE; (2) liver function after PVE; (3) typical case analysis. Measurement data with normal distribution were represented as Mean± SD. Count data were represented as absolute numbers or percentages. Comparison of data of the same patient was analyzed using the paired t test. Results:(1) Liver volume after PVE:the morphological liver volume and functional liver volume for the 16 patients were (1 420±211)mL and (389±112)mL. The morphological liver volume and functional liver volume were (636±143)mL and (234±106)mL of planning reserved lobe, (784±210)mL and (151±106)mL of planning resection lobe, respectively. The functional liver density (FLD) of planning reserved lobe and planning resection lobe were 0.36±0.12 and 0.19±0.11, showing a significant difference between them ( t=3.794, P<0.05). The planning resection rate of morpholo-gical liver volume and functional liver volume were 37.8%±0.6% and 54.8%±0.2%, showing a significant difference between them ( t=?3.720, P<0.05). (2) Liver function after PVE: 13 of 16 patients completed the indocyanine green (ICG) test, and 3 patients didn't complete the ICG test due to intolerance. For the 13 patients undergoing ICG test, the total ICG-K value was (0.15±0.03)/minutes, and the ICG-K value of planning reserved lobe was (0.07±0.02)/minutes. The total GSA-K value of 16 patients was (0.14±0.10)/minutes, and the GSA-K value of planning reserved lobe was (0.08±0.06)/minutes. (3) Typical case analysis: a 46-year-old male patient with type Bismuth Ⅲa perihilar cholangiocarcinoma was planned to perform perihilar hepatectomy combined with right hepatectomy. The imaging evaluation showed that the volume of reserved liver lobe accounted for 27% of the total liver volume. The serum total bilirubin was 256 μmol/L when admitted and decreased to 118 μmol/L on the day 5 after percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage. The right anterior and right posterior branches of PVE was performed. SPECT 99Tc m-GSA examination was performed on the day 37 after PVE. The morphological liver volume was 559 mL of planned reserved lobe and 1 461 mL of the whole liver. The planned morphological liver volume resection rate was 61.7%. ICG-K was 0.12/minutes of the whole liver, and 0.04/minutes of planned reserved lobe. The functional liver volume was 134 mL of planned reserved lobe and 309 mL of the whole liver. The planned resection rate of functional liver volume was 56.6%. The GSA-K was 0.20/minutes of the whole liver and 0.09/minutes of planned reserved lobe. R 0 resection was achieved in perihilar hepatectomy combined with right hepatectomy and no liver failure occurred. The survival time of patients was 11 months. Conclusion:Dynamic SPECT 99Tc m-GSA scintigraphy can effectively evaluate the regional function of the reserved liver lobe in patients with perihilar cholangiocarcinoma after PVE.

ABSTRACT

Mitotic catastrophe (MC) is a form of programmed cell death induced by mitotic process disorders, which is very important in tumor prevention, development, and drug resistance. Because rapidly increased data for MC is vigorously promoting the tumor-related biomedical and clinical study, it is urgent for us to develop a professional and comprehensive database to curate MC-related data. Mitotic Catastrophe Database (MCDB) consists of 1214 genes/proteins and 5014 compounds collected and organized from more than 8000 research articles. Also, MCDB defines the confidence level, classification criteria, and uniform naming rules for MC-related data, which greatly improves data reliability and retrieval convenience. Moreover, MCDB develops protein sequence alignment and target prediction functions. The former can be used to predict new potential MC-related genes and proteins, and the latter can facilitate the identification of potential target proteins of unknown MC-related compounds. In short, MCDB is such a proprietary, standard, and comprehensive database for MC-relate data that will facilitate the exploration of MC from chemists to biologists in the fields of medicinal chemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics, oncology and so on. The MCDB is distributed on http://www.combio-lezhang.online/MCDB/index_html/.

ABSTRACT

The aim of the present study was to investigate the protective effect of propofol on the experimental myocardial infarction in rats. The myocardial infarction model was established by ligating the anterior descending branch of left coronary artery in rats. Model rats were treated with propofol. Cardiac function was evaluated by echocardiography. Cardiac hemodynamic changes were detected by multiconductor biorecorder. Pathological changes in the infarcted myocardia were detected by HE staining. The expression levels of cardiac hypertrophy marker genes and fibrosis marker proteins were analyzed by real-time quantitative PCR and Western blot. The results showed that, compared with the sham surgery group, the model group exhibited larger infarct size (> 40%), impaired heart function, and significantly increased left ventricular end-diastolic pressure (LVEDP). Propofol reduced cardiac function impairment and decreased LVEDP in the model group. Propofol significantly reduced lung weight/body weight ratio, heart weight/body weight ratio, left ventricular weight/body weight ratio and left atrial weight/body weight ratio in the model group. Furthermore, after myocardial infarction, the administration of propofol significantly improved the diastolic strain rate, down-regulated the mRNA expression levels of myocardial hypertrophy markers, atrial natriuretic peptide and β-myosin heavy chain, and reversed the up-regulation of matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP2), MMP9 and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-2 (TIMP-2) induced by myocardial infarction. These results suggest propofol can reduce adverse ventricular remodeling, cardiac dysfunction, myocardial hypertrophy and fibrosis after myocardial infarction, and has protective effect against the experimental myocardial infarction induced by coronary artery ligation in rats.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND@#Neck pain caused by cervical spondylosis (CS) is a chronic pain condition, with an increasingly high incidence in the general population. Electroacupuncture is a common analgesic modality that has been widely applied in neck pain treatment. However, current electroacupuncture instruments used in the clinic have low intelligence levels and obscure parameter standards. We here designed this study for assessing the effect and safety of a new, intelligent electroacupuncture instrument, the CX-DZ-II, in treating neck pain.@*METHODS@#The present study is a prospective, two-center, randomized, controlled, open-label, non-inferiority trial for CX-DZ-II on treating neck pain caused by CS. Totally 160 eligible patients will be included in this trial and randomly assigned to an experimental group and a control group in a 1:1 ratio. A semi-standard acupoint selection strategy will be employed. In the experimental group, selected acupoints will be stimulated by CX-DZ-II. Electroacupuncture treatment will be accomplished by a pre-existing electroacupuncture instrument in the control group. The duration of treatment will be 2 weeks. The primary outcome is the change of Visual Analog Scale (VAS) score after one course of treatment. The secondary outcomes include the VAS scores after each treatment, the responder rate, drug-usage rate of non-steroidal antipyretic analgesics, the rate of adverse events occurrence, and the performance of instrument.@*DISCUSSION@#This study will evaluate the effect and safety of the CX-DZ-II intelligent electroacupuncture therapeutic instrument in comparison with a pre-existing non-intelligent instrument in the treatment of neck pain caused by CS. The results will hopefully demonstrate a more optimal electroacupuncture instrument for the treatment of neck pain. (Trial registration No. gov NCT03005301).

ABSTRACT

Objective::To study the forming process of the gynandrium-like in Amomum villosum. Method::The flowerets were divided into 8 growth periods from 0.5 cm in length to the day after flowering. Fresh sample were anatomized, and paraffin sectioning was performed on the flowerets. The height of anther chamber, the pollen sac angles, the width of anther gap, the diameter of style, the filament-labellum angle (α), and the filament-anther angle (β) were determined. Result::The angle of the pollen sac had no obvious change before flowering, but decreased from 32° to 17° after flowering. The width of anther gap increased to 0.29 mm in the 5th growth period, while the diameter of style was 0.32 mm in the same period, the ratio of them was 92%. Compared with the day before flowering, the angle α decreased from 83° to 42° during flowering, and the angle β decreased from 186° to 147°. In the filament, the abaxial side had 1 to 5 layers of cells more than the adaxial side. In the style, it was found that the adaxial side had 1 to 6 layers of cells more than the abaxial side. Conclusion::The asymmetry of the cell structure at abaxial and adaxial sides of the filament and style is the basis of the movement. In the 5th growth period, the width of anther gap increased almost to the size of style, so the style was able to slide in. When blossoming, the pollen sacs quickly squeezed to the gap in middle, and the entrance for style to access was blocked. Therefore, the style had to remain in the gap of the pollen sacs. Meanwhile, angles α and β drastically decreased, resulting in the stamen sandwiched the pistil and bending together toward the labellum. The gynandrium-like structure was formed.

ABSTRACT

Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a devastating cerebrovascular event that often is followed by permanent brain impairments. It is necessary to explore the pathogenesis of secondary pathological damages in order to find effective interventions for improving the prognosis of SAH. Blockage of brain lymphatic drainage has been shown to worsen cerebral ischemia and edema after acute SAH. However, whether or not there is persistent dysfunction of cerebral lymphatic drainage following SAH remains unclear. In this study, autologous blood was injected into the cisterna magna of mice to establish SAH model. One week after surgery, SAH mice showed decreases in fluorescent tracer drainage to the deep cervical lymph nodes (dcLNs) and influx into the brain parenchyma after injection into the cisterna magna. Moreover, SAH impaired polarization of astrocyte aquaporin-4 (AQP4) that is a functional marker of glymphatic clearance and resulted in accumulations of Tau proteins as well as CD3⁺, CD4⁺, and CD8⁺ cells in the brain. In addition, pathological changes, including microvascular spasm, activation of glial cells, neuroinflammation, and neuronal apoptosis were observed in the hippocampus of SAH mice. Present results demonstrate persistent malfunction of glymphatic and meningeal lymphatic drainage and related neuropathological damages after SAH. Targeting improvement of brain lymphatic clearance potentially serves as a new strategy for the treatment of SAH.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To set up a callus induction system for Amomum villosum by tissue culture. Method: The rhizome buds of A. villosum and stem segments, root tip segments of sterile A. villosum plantles were used as explants and cultured in MS media with different concentrations of 6-BA,NAA and 2,4-D (the pH of each medi is about 5.8). A callus induction system was established to explore the effect of different explants and different medium on callus induction for A. villosum. Result:The findings showed that the rhizome buds and sterile plantlet stems and root tip segments of three different explants can be successfully induced into calli. The most suitable medium for callus induction from rhizome buds and sterile plantlet stems was MS with 6-BA (1.5 mg·L-1),2,4-D (1.0 mg·L-1) and NAA (0.5 mg·L-1) with the highest induction rates of 15% and 60% respectively. MS medium combined with 6-BA (2.0 mg·L-1),2,4-D (1.0 mg·L-1) and NAA (1.0 mg·L-1) was the most suitable proposal for inducing the callus from sterile root tip segments with the highest induction rate of 76%. Conclusion:Under certain culture conditions, rhizome buds, stem or root tip segments of sterile plantlet can be effectively induced into callus. The callus induction system of A. villosum is preliminarily established, and root tip segments of sterile plantlet are the optimal explant.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To evaluate the value of CYP11B2 immunohistochemistry in the histopathological diagnosis of primary aldosteronism(PA) among Chinese population.@*Methods@#Ninety-six cases of unilateral PA patients were retrospectively enrolled, and with 15 cases of non-hyperfunctioning adenoma, and 15 cases of cortisol producing adenoma as control. CYP11B2 immunohistochemistry was performed in the tumor sections of these patients and was analysed by semi-quantified method. The positive rate of CYP11B2 in tumor specimen of all cases enrolled was calculated and PA patients were subtypely classified based on their histopathological features and CYP11B2 expressions.@*Results@#The immune-positive rate of CYP11B2 in the PA group was 91.7% (88/96), with the control group being 6.7% (2/30, P<0.001). Subgroup analysis revealed that the immune-positive rate of CYP11B2 in the aldosterone producing adenoma group and unilateral hyperplasia group were 91.8% (78/85) and 90.9% (10/11), respectively. Based upon histopathological feature and CYP11B2 immunohistochemistry, PA patients were further subtypely classified as aldosterone producing adenoma (85/96), unilateral diffuse adrenocortical hyperplasia (7/96), unilateral mono-adrenocortical micronodules (1/96), unilateral multiple adrenocortical micronodules (1/96), and unilateral multiple aldosterone-producing cell clusters (multiple APCCs, 2/96).@*Conclusion@#CYP11B2 immunohistochemistry may serve as an useful tool for the histopathological diagnosis of PA.

ABSTRACT

American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius L.) is a well-known Asian traditional herbal medicine with a large market demand. The plant is native to eastern North America, and its main producing areas worldwide are decreasing due to continuous cropping obstacles and environmental changes. Therefore, the identification of maximum similarities of new ecological distribution of P. quinquefolius, and prediction of its response to climate change in the future are necessary for plant introduction and cultivation. In this study, the areas with potential ecological suitability for P. quinquefolius were predicted using the geographic information system for global medicinal plants (GMPGIS) based on 476 occurrence points and 19 bioclimatic variables. The results indicate that the new ecologically suitable areas for P. quinquefolius are East Asia and the mid-eastern Europe, which are mainly distributed in China, Russia, Japan, Ukraine, Belarus, North Korean, South Korea, andRomania. Under global climate change scenarios, the suitable planting areas for P. quinquefolius would be increased by 9.16%-30.97%, and expandingnorth and west over the current ecologically suitable areas by 2070. The potential increased areas that are ecologically suitable include northern Canada, Eastern Europe, and the Lesser Khingan Mountains of China, and reduced regions are mainly in central China, the southern U.S., and southern Europe. Jackknife tests indicate that the precipitation of the warmest quarter was the important climatic factor controlling the distribution of P. quinquefolius. Our findings can be used as auseful guide for P. quinquefolius introduction and cultivation in ecologically suitable areas.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the relationship between traditional Chinese medicine (TCM)syndrome differentiation of multiple myeloma(MM)and laboratory indexes of MM,thus to supply evidence for the syndrome differentiation of MM. Methods A total of 59 MM patients were enrolled in the study. TCM syndrome differentiation was performed. And we also collected the laboratory indexes of serum protein electrophoresis (SPE),immunofixation electrophoresis (IFE),blood urea nitrogen (BUN),creatinine (CREA),serum beta 2 microglobulin, serum calcium(Ca),hemoglobin(Hb),Bence Jones protein, flow cytometric-immunophenotyping(FCM) and bone marrow cytology. The differences of the laboratory indexes in various syndrome types of MM were analyzed. Results No significant differences were found in myeloma cell morphology, M protein content, IFE typing results, Bence Jones protein positive rate and the concentration of Ca of various syndrome types of MM (P >0.05). However, the concentrations of BUN,CREA,serum beta 2 microsglobulin,Hb,and the positive rates of CD19- and CD56+ were significantly different in various syndrome types of MM (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01). Moreover,Hb,BUN,CREA,and serum beta 2 microspheres were significantly correlated with each other(P<0.05 or P < 0.01). Conclusion Hb, BUN, CREA, blood beta 2 microglobulin and FCM detection can be sued for the auxiliary diagnosis of syndrome types of MM, and for preliminary demonstration of illness severity and prognosis. The results will provide the basis for the treatment of MM with traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine.
